I Began To Question
When I got on my knees for church
And asked who am I doing this for?
When I watched a man die on the street
And wondered why anyone need be poor?
When I heard students cry out for peers shot dead
And raged because policy makers said it’s all in our head.
I found out I was older once I began to question
Why men found my shoulders, thighs, and midriff to be their new obsession.
I found out I was older when I wished to join the fight
Of protestors, activists, and crusaders fighting for their rights.
I found out I was older.
