I am Deaf

Location

Being born in a black box

The room’s dark and cold

There’s a world outside

You know of a better world

But it’s beyond your reach

You can see it, everyone else

One day, there’s a door

You open the door and you’re blinded

The sunlight burns and you stumble

And fall flat on your feet

Strange people look at you

And yell at you

For not knowing how to walk

You’ve only ever known your room

You have no idea how to walk

Yet everyone expects you to

You get up slowly

You stumble and trip

But slowly, slowly you learn

And the yells soon turn to cheers

Congratulations

There’s a whole bright new world to be found

Beyond the confines of your room

A whole new world full of possibilities

You are deaf no more
