How to respond?
Write a poem about what poetry means to you.
Sounds pretty simple.
Write a poem. Um...
Poetry to me
Is an interesting way
To write differently.
Crap. Is "differently" three syllables or four?
It doesn't matter. That doesn't feel like enough.
Um...
Poetry to me
Is like a shining crystal cave.
The written word, full of wonder and magic
Each piece with its own unique beauty and flaws
Stranger, sharper, more hidden depth
Than your standard story.
Better, yes?
...
I don't know what else to say.
At least I have a nice picture to go along with this.
They said that'd help.
What chance do I have?
Someone better than me could probably do better.
Wait, that's the definition of better.
I'm not a poet. I'm not even an English major!
Entropy and iambic pentameter are not typically phrases you see together.
I'm here for the scholarship, and right now poetry is stressing me out.
Heh.
I just realized "entropy" is an anagram of poetry.
Except for the "n".
That's unintentional. I swear.
Certainly someone cleverer (is that a word?)
Could do this whole "stream of conciousness" idea better.
They'd make it so that every seemingly careless random ramble
Fit seamlessly together into some glorious greater whole
A beautiful soliloquy sown from my meandering
Into iambs and astrophics to wow the judges
And whatever other fancy poetry words there are.
But it's not a true gemstone without flaws.
