At night, I like to lay awake in bed and imagine

what the world might really be like.

I put on my headphones and I turn up my music

until I can't hear myself think

and I hope that tomorrow will be kinder.

In the morning, I like to lay awake in bed and imagine

what the world might really be like.

I take my headphones off and I turn down my music

so that I can hear myself think

and I try to convince myself that getting out of bed is worth it.

At noon, I like to lay awake in bed and imagine

what the world might really be like.

I stare at the ceiling and ignore the pleadings of my mother

so that I can turn over and try to sleep.

Because tomorrow will not be kinder

and getting out of bed is hardly ever worth it.
