Her Gray Eyes
Eyes wide open
splashed with life
the purest throat
sang a curious song
new to the air
the child’s gray eyes,
built with pencil lead
and the pebbles of a bridge
silver like a song,
refused to close
And close they did not.
They sped across book pages
Across the sky
and the world
Sponges of the universe
Were the eyes of this girl
her gray eyes grew to
shimmer with secrets
They were gems of deception
Cries for freedom
ringing in fog
And maybe one time
she’ll sing a curious song
cry secrets from her soul
with eyes beaming
like rain washed streets
wide open yet again
