Hello to Goodbye

It must be nice up there,

Upon your throne,

Your petty chair.

The world must look so small,

You could hold it in your hand--

Too bad you can't,

Other humans aren't meant to be

A pawn in your plan.

How dare you say checkmate?

The game never began.

Sure, I let you call some shots,

But you're not the king--barely a prince,

What a sham.

You shot your words,

Sometimes they'd graze my heart.

A bruise here, a scar there,

A secret tear hidden in the dark.

Should I apologize for my imperfections?

That I occasionally act my age?

I'll throw tantrums, I'll argue,

I'm seventeen, give me a break.

I don't know everything,

I wasn't born with Newton's brain.

I hit road blocks, I get stumped...

Sorry that I'm in your way.

You don't like this side of me, do you?

The side that'll question what you say.

Want to know a secret?

Feelings lie beneath my facade of old age.

So here's to new beginnings!

To a college that's across the state.

I hope you grow a little,

If not figuratively, then literally, at any rate...
