Heaven's Side of Hell

My heart pulled through my chest

Even now your memory and smell lingers

They told me it was for the best

As they pried you from my fingers

Holding you felt so right

My heartstrings surged

I held you gently tight

As our tears slowly merged

My entrance to Heaven’s side of Hell

A world full of danger

I remember the clinical smell

The cold vinyl and strangers

This family secret is gone

A hurt and crying soul

The part of me that’s unknown

Only you can patch this hole

Where are you now?

Author’s Note: This was written about a young girl forced by her parents to give up her child at the hospital. However, many of my friends have interpreted it to mean other things as well.

This poem is about:
My family
My country
Our world
