Heartbeat

They say your heart is inside of you

It's the driving force of everything you do

I'm not talking about the one that beats

And pumps blood throughout your body

It's not a muscle

Not in the physical sense

I'm talking about the one that pulls your

life in every direction

Implying it's outside of you

And you've entrusted it

A million ways

Yes, I'm insisting this heart

This nonphysical one

Is not within at all

And you've handed it out

Piece by piece to many

Things, people, places

And every heartbeat doesn't push life out

But pulls you in.
