Grown Up

For most of my life,

I never truly grew up.

My home was always filled with strife,

feeling like a screwup.

I devoted my life to helping others,

at the expense of myself.

wanted approval from my mother,

putting my feelings up on a shelf.

I lived a life where I just went through the motions.

told myself that it'll get better soon

But what I had was nothing but corrupted devotion.

My life is better now,

I got rid of the toxic people in my life

and focused on bettering myself

And too this day I vow,

That helping others is good for yourself.

But make sure you're okay in your life,

before you going helping someone else.

when you realize that,

You'll find that you've truly grown up.
