The Green Man

Location

There Once Was a Green Man

Who lived among many

There were many green people, along with red people, yellow people, and blue

Who did things that this green child would never do

They spoke ignorantly as though they had never learned a language

And would sometimes do wild things, as though they were savage

The way other green people acted especially angered the man

For there was a time in history when the yellow people proudly proclaimed

“look up and you see the yellow sun,

Who we are destined to epitomize”

Then they under their feet

And see the green grass

They would tell the green people

“Under my feet is where you belong”

But where there was water

The grass grew

And vindication that the green people wanted from their treatment

 Would become true

But now the green child looks at some of his brothers and sisters

And looks at dismay

There was once a time

When the yellow man worked to bring the green man down

Making sure to cut the grass

Whenever it made a sound

The Yellow People no longer make that effort

For weeds have grown in the grass

And the green people now accept the weeds as more beneficial than water

Even as the days grow hotter

Sympathy has even risen out of the sun

Bringing heat hoping the grass will grow

Hoping somewhere in the grass there is something to sow

But they always leave empty-handed

Now this confused green child

Bitter of his position on the ground

Climbed a tree, hoping to the reach the sun

Not knowing the climb was the signal of the battle already won

As the child reached the top he found himself between the grass and the sun

And leaped towards the sky hoping to become a yellow one

His attempts were futile and he fell to the ground hurt

Lying damaged in the brown dirt
