Grandmother's Story

Grandmother tell me a story

not that repetitive one but the other one

the one about you and me

how you first looked at me

how you first held me

grandmother tell me that story.

Grandmother tell me a story,

no i dont want to hear about your las vegas trip

I want to hear about the trip with you and me.

Tell me that time, when I slipped in the pool,

how your arm knew what to do.

Grandmother tell me that story

Grandmother tell me a story

I’ve already heard that one about how you fell in love

but I want to hear the story of how you fell in love with me.

How you worried about me,

that one afternoon when I was lost in the woods,

and came back crying with a little bee sting.

Grandmother tell me that story

Grandmother Can you make me this promise?

To keep telling me stories forever?

I thought you could.

I thought you told me the story of us,

how we would last for a lifetime.

Grandmother can you tell me the story of life.

Why it has to come and go.

Why it has to be so quick and sure.

Grandmother, I don’t want to hear that story.

Grandmother can you tell me the story of heaven.

Of what the clouds look like.

Of what it feels to have no pain.

Grandma, I’d like you to come here and tell me that story.

The story of us.
