Give Me A Gold Medal

Sun, 12/17/2017 - 17:15 -- jquan

I should get an Olympic gold medal, since

Every day I hear that we’re all so smart.

Experts at graphs and charts,

Eyes so small,

Experts at a racket and a ball.
Ching chong chang similar names,

Confusing since we all look the same.

And we constantly take the blame

Because who cares about diversity.

When we’re taking spots in their universities,

Masters at the piano, violin, and cello

Because our skin’s supposed to be yellow,

L’s changed to R’s in saying “Hello,”

Always getting A’s,

Won’t accept any other grade.

Does that mean the only way

We ace

All tests with time to waste.

Nullifying the hard work we face

because of our race.

In the end it’s supposed to be all a joke.

If it was offensive then I should’ve spoke.

Nothing wrong with laughing at our folks,

Apparently not oppressed nor deprived.

Zip in textbooks on our struggle to survive,

Just making jokes on how we drive.

Leaving the rest of the class in defeat.

It must be something in what we eat.

Infinite rice and dog meat,

Not dogs of the hot variety mind you,

But the furry pets they’ll put in a stew.

Slaughtered with kung fu,

And our bad driving too.

My peers haven’t got any evidence,

Saying that any of this is true,

But they say it seems like what Asians do.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
