Ghost

My heart thumps as he comes closer
palms sweating, breath quickening.
he sits at my table and glances at me
with eyes as blue as the ocean.
"catcher in the rye?" he asks, referring to my book
but i don't hear him.
all i can see is the way his eyes crinkle at the corner
when he smiles.
all i can smell is the fresh pine-y scent
emanating from his strong build.
all i can hear is the beating of my heart as it jumps and rattles
against my chest.
my mouth opens, closes, opens again.
"you came back" i say finally.
he smiles again
i reach out to touch him and when my hand passes
through his chest,
i know.
but i'm happy,
i'm happy.
