The Future

We both thought that we were going to last

But who can really predict the future?

We both came from pasts that had

Made us both look at the world

In a different way

Lost souls

But somehow we found each other

And when we did

We held on tight

Like a little kid at night

With their favorite blanket

Your brother never made it home to tuck in his daughter's blanket

Remember you promised that nothing would ever happen to you?

Not to worry, cause everything was all alright?

You promised me

Don't you remember?

And when Kevin got shot too

I had a feeling that

Your promise wasn't going to last

I told you to quit the life you were living

But you were

Too wrapped up in the streets

To listen to me

Too naive to not look at what path your brothers took

Cause if you did

You'd have seen the destination

Was the same all along

You were my baby

Don't you remember?

I was your shawty

Don't you remember?

We both thought that we were going to last

But who can really predict the future?
