Fulfillment

I used to dream

about working in the theatre

drowning in the adrenaline rush

from performing,

from making people happy.

But I learned

that is not for me.

I still need, though,

a job that will actively make lives better.

Working in a lab won't make me smile,

because I won't be there to see clients get better.

I want to see the change I make in people.

Which is why

I will find fulfillment in counseling others.

People who have lost their way,

become depressed,

anxious,

who need someone to listen and guide them.

I want to be that person.

The one who listens when no one else will.

The one who saves people,

Not from a heart attack,

but from the thoughts that keep them up at night

and tear them apart by day.

It's not surgery,

but I will fix their hearts too.
