Friend

Oh, my friend, how much we’ve endured

Moments of communion

When reality has been suspended far above our heads

Solace in a single glance

Stability in a counter balance

The honest voice

The protecting but not protective

If you fall, I’ll help you up

But never stumble just because you do

You would never ask me to

We’ve had the lion’s share of rest and pain

Like grade school from the start

No expectations, no need for them,

Wrap each other up in comfort

No time, no stressor, no missile from the sky

Could tear me from your side.

Thank you for being my first best friend.
