Fledgling

With my feet

Encased

In concrete,

Keeping me firmly

On the ground,

How will I fly

Up in the sky?

My roots dig deeper

Into my home earth

When I think

Of soaring all alone,

An isolated figure

In the great unknown.

Buffeted by every icy blast

Drenched by the monsoon

Without a solid shelter

To protect me from the gloom.

Unwillingly I chip away

At the bonds that hold me secure.

Binding, comforting, belonging.

Someday

They will snap,

Even gravity will not be force enough

To hold me down.

And as I float upwards

Leaving the safety I had behind

I realize no matter how far I wander,

Or how tangled the twisty winds wind,

No matter how far I go, I can always

Find my way

Home.
