Firework Show

It’s time to watch the fireworks

As they fill the sky with light

these small controlled explosions

That seem to split the night

They remind me of my childhood

and of patriotic dreams

Of apple pie, the Fourth of July,

And so many other things

They flash with throngs of glitter

which scares away the dark

But even when the glitter fades

The smoke has left its mark

A big and growing cloud

That’s grey on every side

It covers up the fireworks

And let’s the glitter hide

There’s fireworks of every type

Of every shape and size

There blue, there’s red, there’s yellow ones

And ones that match your eyes.

They’re here for just a moment

And gone before the dawn

But I promise I’ll be back next year

Still sitting on this lawn

My country
