There was a time

when I was blind

to the magnitude

of the world and all of its vices,

when I woke up

and looked forward

to life

and all the surprises

that it had.

I charted my own course,

planned my own path,

thought I knew where I was going,

but had no clue where I was at.

In time I learned patience

virtue and class,

refusing to give up

a healthy bit of sass.

And there came a day

for innocence to pass,

as i watched my life crumble,

my heart sink from my chest;

broken vows from the one...

who knew me the best.

I never would have begged

a sad story to tell,

never would have requested

to live through hell.

"Not good enough"

are words I no longer use,

Because who you are

is often what you've been through.

Because of my past

my confidence is strong.

I spent so long trying

to find someone to be

that I never saw the people who loved me for me.

Again I chart my course;

Again I plan my path,

But I know exactly where I'm going

because I know exactly where I'm at.
