Field Notes from China

To Beijing,

The world revolves around Beijing.

I met one of the kindest people...he smiles wide.

I wish that his wide smile would remain on his face for

as long as he will live.

We talk about politics on the roof. We are young and old

and everything on every spectrum.

The sun rarely shows itself here.

The pale sky reveals nothing but the promise that

They produce waste and that

The rest of the world sees the sun.

I want the intense colored paint on the palace walls

to replace my entire being.

I don’t feel guilty in my mind;

Pleas to disappear and become a silhouette.

Life goes in its strange way of doing things.

Time will change but life will be similar.

Laughter is the same in every language.

So tired my eyes are crossed.

It’s best that way.
