The Eternal Smile

Mon, 11/17/2014 - 20:24 -- jdub

I laugh in light of myself

And I am made alive

Reborn like the phoenix

I was born to strive

For happiness and content

Where my smile saves the day

There is no sorrow on earth

That will scare my laugh away.

My best quality is the chuckle

Of merriment that escapes me.

My inane and impossible ecstasy

Is the trait that shapes me.

There is no one else on earth

With my ability

To not take things

So seriously

I hope one day

The world will recognize

That the thing that defines me

Isn’t my eyes

Or the size of my feet

But just the ease

With which the corners of my mouth

Push  into my cheeks

And form the eternal

smile.
