A poem is-
nothing.
Why does a poem matter?
Because a poem is a piece of the self
Even a comical limerick
Yes,
It probably doesn’t provide any greater insight into the human condition
But it also does
Without any prompting for introspection
we realise what makes us laugh
For such reasons
a poet carries a heavy responsibility.
Emotions are a tool,
and when misused there can be no guaranteed results
A poem can be written for anyone
Even if it was only meant for oneself
Often times emotions cannot
Coherently convert into an inner monologue
Only vaguely related words written with such passion
that they gain meaning
Once my eighth grade English teacher truly opened up the world of poetry
I have stuck with it
Even if not always consistently
But if I needed poetry it was there
That
is why poetry will always be important.
If not for me,
then someone else
