You’ll never know how many times I’ve been opened

You’ll never know how many times under the desk I’ve been Jammed

Every day I give students the gift of knowledge

Yet every day after the bell I’ve been slammed

You’ll never know how tough it is, holding all this information

I tell stories you can’t even fathom

Containing words of hope, love, fear, sorrow and devastation

Blessed and wrecked is the one who knows so much of English literature

I long to share all that I know with every person who holds me

My fluttering pages scream as they fly

Yet the students dull faces as they read, it destroys me

Yet in a rare moment, I see that one student with a passion for what I have

The excitement and joy on their face says it all

They flip through my pages, hungry for more

You’ll never know how much I wish I could call

Call to them; thank them for their love of literature and learning

You’ll never know how much that means to me

But I know, I know.
