Empty Mattresses

Sun, 10/04/2015 - 15:09 -- etalate

There's an empty space next to me
And I know it's where you used to be
You are a cliche rolled
In poetry
And I can't help but love you

There's an empty space next to me
And I can't help but wonder where you went
I knew this one night stand
Friendship wouldn't last
But I can't help but miss you

There's an empty space next to me
And the mere thought of you brings tears to my eyes
You left a metallic taste in my mouth
Like I've been sucking on two pennies
And I can't help but hate you

You once told me that you're pure at heart
And that is repels the dirt
I guess maybe that's why we grew apart
My heart just isn't compatible with yours
And that's why my mattress is so cold

I may not be pure enough to have a heart
Of gold,
But at least I have a heart of brass
It may be cold and blemished
But beautiful things can still come from it.
