Emptiness

Dear

empty white space on my paper

I wish I could fill your every crevice

with words that meant something to us

I wish I could paint your every corner and edge

so that you never feel empty

so that you are as full

as the thoughts in my mind

I wish I wasn’t too scared

too turn your blankness

into beauty

Dear

dull black words written on my paper

I wish you weren’t as empty

as the white spaces that surround you

I wish you meant something to us

I wish you weren’t influenced by a force

other than my heart

I wish you were mine

Dear

hand that holds the dark pen

that writes the words of another

I wish your twenty-seven bones

were strong enough to write themselves

I wish you were an artist

and could turn this endless canvas

into something meaningful
