Eighth, Ninth, Tenth Wonder

Tiny fingers trace faded ink in dusty books. unaware what they will grow to touch, to only dream of being this unknowing again, paper white on paper white.

Awesome:

    adjective

  1. extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.

Love may be the only thing worthy of awesome for you, later. Its the only thing that seems to move your rigor mortis heart, your tight cheeks and locked teeth, unhinged at the socket. And she is to be gaped at: a girl made for gawking, five feet flaunting, God what have you done.

Because love is big for you: its pushing past ribs and skin to get out of your heart. Its incredible, its awful, it will destroy you with relish and you will smile at her all the while, with blood pooling in your chucks.

That feeling in your chest is awesome, in the oldest sense of the word, something to be wondered at, to tremble in front of the colossus at your Rhodes dreams, to fall to your knees at its gilded feet.

You whisper prayers in its ears with closed eyes and hold your hope in reverent hands, cupped to catch whatever she may deign you.

People gave their Gods everything: they ripped themselves open, and each other too, to hold holiness like trapped birds between their fingers.

And fuck, what will you do for something that can love you back?

You make a big deal about not falling down on alters you didn't make yourself: you consecrate your body to her.

You may love the awesomeness of it, a bit- maybe more than its incarnate. Wars start over this feeling: This tick tock of heart beats that actually matter.

(You'll take the red shoes, the razed soul. Just stay in this bed until the vein busts and the dam breaks, and your heart works its way out of your skin.)

I love you, she whispers in the morning. Awesome doesn't even cover it. I love you, I love you, I love you-
