Double Chocolate Chip

Tuesdays are busy with

little time to pack adequate meals

I found myself eating a vending machine muffin

Double chocolate chip.

I ate on a bench in my university’s gym.

Sneakers, running shorts, and muscles waltzed by

In social packs

As I sat

Alone,

Hunched,

Hollow,

Empty,

Eating my vending machine muffin.

400 calories

Pathetic

Crumbs spilling

Hands shaking

Head bowing.

Head bowing,

I found a small moment of gratitude

For the spilled crumbs,

The moment of quiet,

The empty bench that welcomed me

And held me as I feasted

On a vending machine muffin,

double chocolate chip.

I left the bench

Renewed

Thankful

Filled.
