Don't Be Afraid

Location

Let go of the ledge;
Don’t be afraid,
Let go of your fear:
There is freedom in falling
as your heart stops beating and flutters instead.
Once you let go, you’ll enter the darkness,
But you’ll see that what envelops you
is not despair, but living canvas–
cherry blossom-pink surfing waves of sea foam green
as you twist and turn and dance
in zero gravity. There is freedom in falling
because everything in the Universe is falling,
No longer enveloped and cushioned by an illusion:
You never have been safe
You never have been standing still.
You never have been on solid ground.
Let go of the ledge.
Take a leap of faith.
It’s the only way you’ll learn how to fly.
