Determination like concrete

I want to be a better person,
I want to change the world
But I stare at the ceiling at night
thinking

If I feel sometimes
like I can't even put my feet on the floor
How can I put the weight of the world
on my shoulders?

After tears and fights
"I hate you" and "I'm sorry"
Disappointment in my mum's eyes
I realised,

Its determination.
Walking the walk,
Talking the talk.
That's what gets your feet on the floor

On the outside be strong,
even when you don't want to get out of bed.
Even when all you want to do is cry,
Hide,
Crumble.
Determination will seep in
Into every cut and pore
Seep into your core.
Harden you like concrete.
No more "will I?"
More "I Will."

Once internalised,
You can put your feet on the floor.
Take a step,
Then strap the world to your back
Take a step,
Feel the sunshine on your face
Take a step,
And become the person you know you've always
Been destined to be
