December 14, 2015

A memory, a call,

of times lost long ago.

Of laughter that will always fall

that day not long ago.

We missed the sign

that could have changed

this rhyme to better times,

that day of years ago.

I can't, I won't...HELP!

the silent sounds of never heard.

If only known of quiet yelps

that day passed long ago.

We only wish we could have seen

what He dared not communicate,

A life that could've leaned on me

that tragic day ever ago.

After that the times do pass,

A test that last twice more than once

to cut us down in our mass

that day of two ago.

Now I sit in wondering

at how we missed the sign,

A lesson learnt in pondering

that day TWO years ago.

This poem requires some background info...On December 14, 2015 I lost a classmate to suicide, and saw how it affected my entire graduating class. We learned a lot from that experience, and continue to demonstrate what we have learned in our defense against suicide now.
