Dear Childhood

Dear Childhood,

I miss when I was with you-

Wide eyed and innocent, ready to conquer the world

with my imagination as my partner

and the rocket ship I was sure to have once

I became the first 8 year old astronaut

as my way of travel.

Things were more simple when I was with you-

High School Musical was the biggest inspiration

for every outfit, notebook, and piece of bedding

I owned, and I was proud of it.

Love was something I was sure of,

especially with that one kid I saw on the blacktop

playing four square that looked pretty cute,

or the boy that I dated for two days,

refused to kiss, and barely knew.

I miss you and all of the innocence that you entail.

But I have to grow up now.

I have to do taxes.

I have to get a job.

I have to go to college.

And while I can find fun in doing those

grown up things,

I will always miss your simple, innocent days

and look back on you with longing nostalgia.

Thank you for shaping me into who I am.

Yours truly,

Jazzmyn
