The Date

Location

He picked her up

at half past two.

Grinning he said,

"We're alone, just me and you."

She told her dad

she was heading to the coffee shop.

There was a test tomorrow

and she needed to study, a lot.

Dear daddy, I love you.

Dear daddy, I'm fine.

I'll be home soon.

Don't drink too much wine.

They strolled into the restaurant,

hand in hand,

listening to the beautiful music

being played by the band.

Across the table

sat a handsome young man.

His smile the brightest

in all the land.

Dear daddy, I love you.

Dear daddy, I'm fine.

I'll be home soon.

Don't drink too much wine.

They talked and they laughed

about everything possible.

They thought to themselves,

"This love, is it plausible?"

Nervously she scanned

the room dimly lit.

If he caught her here,

boy, he'd have a fit.

Dear daddy, I love you.

Dear daddy, I'm fine.

I'll be home soon.

Don't drink too much wine.

"Hi darling daughter."

he says with a grin.

The beginning of this love,

will soon near its end.

Afraid to look up

she murmurs, "Hi dad."

Then thinks to herself,

"Oh, this night's gunna be bad."

Dear daddy, I love you.

Dear daddy, I'm fine.

I'll be home soon.

Don't drink too much wine.

The boy smiles shyly

at the father of his friend,

thinking to himself,

"This may be my end."

The father frowns

at his daughter's scheme.

He knows that yelling

will only cause her to flee.

Dear daddy, I love you.

Dear daddy, I'm fine.

I'll be home soon.

Don't drink too much wine.

The boy thinks "He'll kill me,

I swear it!

Cross him, heck no!

I wouldn't dare it!"

She left with her friend

into the cool night air.

Then looked at him saying,

"Next time will be different, I swear."

Dear daddy, I love you.

Dear daddy, I'm fine.

Dear daddy, don't hurt me,

for love isn't a crime.
