Darkness
Alone
You think you are
But you're not.
While you're in that dark corner
Holding your legs that are folded to your chest
Staring into the darkness
Straining to see where your fear lies
But for all that effort
You see nothing except darkness.
You don't see that slithering tail, glowing with poisonous spikes.
You don't see the leering face, smiling down on you, hungry for flesh.
You don't see the man whose face is too scarred from too many fights with his victims to see his facial features.
You don't see any of these things, as you try to calm yourself down, thinking that there is really nothing there, nothing to be afraid of.
