Cracks in the Sidewalk
There are cracks in the sidewalk that represent my life;
A broken home;
A broken family;
Needing something to mold to.
I've become the flower sprouting through
That people tend to walk upon.
I'm growing fast and becoming a new person.
I was shaped by the way the world had made me,
But I'm making my way up to the clouds.
I was told I'd be stuck there
Watching the world fold in.
I'm surprising those who told me I couldn't overcome the obstacles.
I've been granted my greatest wish
And finally no one can stop me.
I'm a flower stuck in the cracks of the sidewalk
But I refused to be walked on any longer.
I'm doing what's best for me,
Like I should have long ago.
I'm not waiting for the sunlight
Or the rain
Or the strangers to pick me up and let me go.
I'm my own person, my own flower;
Beautiful, brave, and bold;
Special and ready to take on the world.
I've been growing for years now
Whether anyone had the courtesy to notice or not.
And I will not be confined to my family name.
I am no rose.
I am no peony.
I am not your daisy.
I am me.
I am the flower who raised itself from the dirt.
I am the flower that never let anyone wilt its petals.
I am strong and powerful
And I will not be stopped.
