Costs Too High

Location

Young girl, working dead end jobs,

Goes home at night and just sobs.

She wants better for her life,

More than being just a wife.

She works her fingers to the bone,

Just for the money to be all gone.

Her head hurts from another sleepless night,

Worrying if the bills and paychecks will be right.

Life isn't easy for a dirt poor girl,

Trying to make ends meet in a cold world.

Boss denied her overtime,

Said she had to wait in line.

Costs too high for living,

Banks just aren't giving.

Cut us a break,

For Christ's sake.

College's costs are too damn high,

For a young girl trying to get by.

Late at night, she dreams,

Maybe life will be better than it seems.

Alarm clock says get to work,

even though boss is a jerk.

You have bills to pay,

Just a few dollars a day,

On Food Stamps to feed everyone,

Already out and the month ain't done.

Life is hard for a poor girl,

Who's dreams just ain't for the real world.

Everyone knows she's smart,

Everyone said she should just start.

But, college is just too high,

For a girl who can't get by.

If we claim to be a great nation,

why can't we all get an education?!

College costs are too high,

For a girl who can't get by.
