The Change

We all want to be The Change

The Change that improves the lives of many

The Change that is praised by all

We talk about being The Change

The Change that puts food in a little girl’s belly

And shoes on a boy’s feet

Well, we can’t be that Change

We can’t be that Change and we won’t

Not unless we change ourselves first.

We boast that we will be The Change

But all we change are the channels on our televisons

Ignoring the reality of the horrors around us

How can we be the change?

Our ignorance radiates in all aspects of our lives

We don’t even know the true meaning of starving

Before we even consider becoming The Change

We need to leave the bubbles of our lives

We need to understand pain

I too am guilty of believing I can be The Change

Of believing I understand their pain

Of believing I know what they need

But I don’t

None of us do

We will never understand

I may not be The Change the world needs

But before I try

I will be The Change I need.
