Bystander Effect

Location

Such a lonely place our blue marble becomes

When we crave individuality to the point of looking past others

I walk down the pavement and see the hundreds of queens and kings

Strutting powerfully with the confidence that they alone could shape the world

Looking down upon others feeds their self-ambition

They rise up in their minds until they become mountains

Alone on a throne at the very peak

Everyone is a shining knight until the cry for help is heard

A little girl with a balloon

Sobbing for mother in a sea of unfamiliar and uncaring faces

The kings and queens are not heartless

But they continue to walk on

A diffusion of responsibility crumbles their mountains with uncertainty

Surely another will help

Changing the world starts by caring for a stranger

Only then will we realize that the world is a level place
