Burning Banner

A burning banner lights the hopeless night

Set fire by those who turn backs and fight

Against the country which they helped create

The blessings, they did not appreciate

No person can speak their mind lacking fear

Of persecution, thus no one can hear

A new perspective or a novel thought

Forgetting reasons our ancestors fought

We're at war with ourselves and our own minds

Depressed and anxious, citizens unkind

Our neighbors are becoming enemies

And contradicting flags clash on each street

With rampant criticism of the youth

Our adolescents strugge to find truth

Instead of bashng future world-changers

Let's nurture them to suture shut dangers

Why don't we change our animosity

To love, compassion, generosity

So shining banners light the hopeful night

America will stand again, so bright

This poem is about:
My country
