Bread

Sun, 05/07/2017 - 21:39 -- Keldin

The conquest of bread

Is the journey of men

Of mankind, to elevate

Not to discriminate

For what does it matter

What tongue you speak,

The color of your skin,

The heritage within,

When we all yearn to eat?

The conquest of bread

Is to secure one’s means

To live, to breathe;

Liberty, liberty!

Self-providing dignity

Not violent pride,

But a peaceful integrity

The conquest of bread

Is the journey of all,

The end of the nations

The eve of starvation

And the guillotine

Of segregation

The conquest of bread

Will be wrought by our hands

Not his, hers, or theirs;

Ours.

Once bread is conquered,

Who knows what comes next?
