Boxes
Don’t put me in your box
‘Cause I’ll burst out toward the skies
All the edges and cardboard walls
Can’t hide my unprejudiced eyes.
Been hiding from the world
Been hiding from myself
Been trying to conform
- I don’t fit on your shelf.
The heart wants what it wants
And mine has an affinity for femininity
It doesn’t fit in my theology
But perhaps it does in my biology.
So love me the same
I know you’ll say you will
But back it up and be true
I’m the same person still.
Just throw the boxes out
And let me fit them all
A multi-faceted soul
Those boxes were too small.
