Blank Pages

Fri, 01/31/2014 - 17:06 -- quix

I'm walking home, mind ablaze
Trying to think past a mindless haze
All I do is "write 300 words or more"
But what good is all the nonsense for?

Start new file, open up a new doc
I can't stop staring at the clock
Blank pages sit in front of me
Bright white is all I see

All I want to do is go to a good school
Learn a few things, follow the rules
But I'm expected to sit at home for weeks
Writing essays for some old, rich, white geeks

I've done the work, checked the boxes
Aced the ACT, yet I'm still cautious
'Cause though I'll be a Presidential Scholar
Nobody's willing to give me a dollar
