The Blank Pages
Location
At first glance, one might question,
“Why bother keeping such a book?”
I’ll tell you why-
This book is special.
From its leather bound cage,
That still holds the scent-
This book is special.
From the rough twine in the binding,
That holds the pages together-
This book is special.
From each individual page,
Soft, yellowed, and worn-
This book is special.
From the gentle thud,
Of being placed tenderly on the table-
This book is special.
From the quiet crinkle,
Of a page being turned-
This book is special.
From the faded ink,
Of carefully shaped, handwritten words-
This book is special.
To the blank pages,
Still crisp and firm,
Waiting just for me,
To pick up my pen-
This book is special.
