Because, I love

I am black, but not a nigger

I refuse to be that

See I was born in love with skin

With every hue and all cracks

I was taught to love a woman

Intimately from my dad

So intimate for me is different

From this physical jazz

She sees scars upon her face

I see stars amongst the sky

Each one is a new chapter

Another goal unrealized

I’m flawless in my love

Because I give it all I can

And all I can is loving her

For all the things she cannot stand

I am flawless for all my flaws

Because each one shows that I am human

I’m a lover and I’m a sinner

And I have talents and I abuse them

I do not claim to be perfect

But I’ll tell you what I am

I’m a guy who keeps his morals straight

Therefore, I’m flawless, as a man.

I’m flawless as a man,

Because I’m sound in my beliefs

I’m imperfect in my practice

But still love unconditionally

Not afraid to speak my mind

So I stand up for what I believe

I did not wake up like this

But this is how I’ll go to sleep
