Beat the Clock

Location

Once I step on that court,

My brain clears. I take a breath.

My heart beats with each bounce,

Keeping me alive.

If it stops,

There won’t be time for goodbyes.

 

That sound of squeaking shoes,

I know my team is here.

I’m ready for their pass,

To shoot and beat the clock.

Because once I hear that buzz,

I know there’ll be no bounce.

 

3… 2... 1… It’s time to stop.

That’s how quick my lungs pop.

Can’t find any air,

The ball stopped bouncing.

There’s no more beating.

Wait! I need to say goodb……
