Around Your Neck as a Child

When I lost brother

I crumbled into nothing.

The sharp shards of my

Heart

Ripped me to ribbons.

Internal bleeding.

The house is silent now.

That day,

I knew in my gut.

I knew what you did,

Even before they asked me to identify your tattoos.

Your beautiful inked skin.

Grams gave me your cross,

The one from your confirmation.

Confirmation.

My screaming confirmation,

Kicking the coroner out of the house,

Your chain,

Your cross,

Around your neck as a child,

Around mine forever and always.

Close to what is left of my heart,

Guiding me through this life,

Without you.
