All Was Calm

Mon, 03/18/2024 - 11:16 -- Giana.c

Streets bustling with cars,  Trees crammed with birds.  But afar in a family’s yard,  A gathering is happening with an exchange of words.    All was calm with the meet.  So many uncles and cousins to greet.  Hot dogs, burgers, peaches and jam,  It was a little overwhelming for little Sam.    But from his parent’s kisses, comfort, and coos,  Then came the wave, the shouts, the boo hoos.    Water filled his vision,  Debris in the way.  Animals, bricks, and televisions,  His consciousness drifted away.    When Sam awoke,  His nostrils were full of smoke.  He slowly sat up with tears in his eyes,  But the world around him was horrid he soon realized.    Houses, buildings, cars and trees,  Destroyed, ruined, nothing with glee.  The colors, emotions Sam had possessed,  At the ripe age of 5, he was stressed.   He called out his Mom and Daddy as well too,   He stood up and collapsed as his leg was broken into.  He screamed in pain,  His attempts were in vain.    He struggled to fight,  Everything hurt,  His sight,  Clothes tattered and covered in dirt.   He failed to hear the boat horn blowing,  It rows past,  He laid there not knowing,  A second wave was coming very fast.
