Suffocated by Fabric
a sickness is not cured
by wrapping a thin blanket
around the sore throat
that exposes injustice.
a symbol does not hold
more value over a person.
an object that requires a steady wind
cannot hush the mouth that blows.
and blue, red, and white
cannot be the only colors
a countryman allows themself to see
while a spectrum taps on their shoulder.
allow yourself to feel compassion
for those that burn the symbol you hold dear to your heart.
they were told the thin blanket would heal them,
but their wounds are still fresh.
