Some days remind me of how great life can be

A nice dinner

with the ones I love

           A chance to study

in pursuit of my dreams  

Some days surprise me of how tricky life can be

the struggle of making money

the feeling of being doubtful

if I’ll make it or not

but most of all

Figuring out who I am

They say I am

A nice girl

A smart girl

A well behaved girl

But sometimes I feel I am

Not uniquely talented

Not particularly ‘cool’

Not extraordinarily beautiful

But then…

I find myself sharing moments

instances of

joy

sadness

lessons

with the most unexpected people  

it’s the moments I share with others that remind me of how awesome life can be

The moments I share with those who seem so different from me

The one with decades of life ahead of me

The one with a different cultural background

The one with tougher upbringing than I could ever imagine

The one who..at least from the outside seems to have a great life

And it all happens in structured and out in the open of the world

At a diverse university

Taking care of a guest at work

Waiting for food in line

or handing some loose change to a person in need

Meeting new people

Sharing thoughts

Communicating with each other

Its within these moments that I find pieces of myself

Its within these moments that I find I become a piece of someone else’s life as well

Whether small or big

    We all matter to each other’s identity

    The ones who insult us make us stronger

    The ones who love us make us better people

    The ones who challenge us make us brighter

I think it’s awesome that we are all different

We help each other remind ourselves that despite our “flaws”

we have something to offer each other

Even if we don’t always notice when it happens
