Burning Bridges

Embers twirl in a sky of black,
Falling stars made of ash;
Watch them dance across the void,
Coming from all that you've destroyed.

Starving flames you're eager to feed
Lick desperately at tranquility,
Climb their way up pillars of stone,
Consuming all that was your home.

Names submit to the intense heat,
Making room for those you'll meet;
Clear-cutting old memories, places -
Never again to recall the faces.

Doused in gasoline, match thrown,
No longer to be called your own;
Bitter loves, sweet hates and fears,
All collected throughout the years.

Sit back, there's no more to say
As the embers drift away.
Run to the freedom for which you've yearned
After you watch your bridges burn.

Very nice poem . It was splendid.

I like the ashes being the first thing you describe. It sets the poem up to be a flashback.
Nicely done.
