Sheltering a Dove
Little girls not allowed.
Grown-ups deciding fate,
Including a future shifting to gray.
Doesn’t she have a say?
Taught of liberty,
Chained doves dream.
You’re free to fly.
Doesn’t she have a say?
You choose, they said.
She picked.
They decided.
Doesn’t she have a say?
You tell us to soar beyond stars,
Giving your choice, say it is ours,
“Sheltering” that dove.
Doesn’t she have a say?
But that dove’s now an eagle,
Broken chains lie still.
Monsters said she could choose.
She broke away from her cage, nothing real to lose.
